Photographers, it's time to
end the practice of
providing
free
treatments

During a recent panel on treatments hosted by the AMA with 4 Art Producers (2 agency, 1 brand, and 1 client direct), all said paying for treatments is only fair, and several said they already do so.
We agree that a creative call is a valuable part of the process and are happy to discuss the project verbally as long as it takes place before the treatment. However, once we are asked to submit a formal proposal based on the creative call, we need to be compensated for our time and ideas.
Why Treatments Should Be Paid:
Level the playing field between Big and Small photographers
It's demoralizing to provide treatments continually and not hear back or not be awarded a job
Photographers with families or who take care of loved ones don't have the time and resources to devote to unpaid labor
We are calling on all photographers to join us in this resolution:
For all of 2024:
Each time you are asked to provide a treatment, you ask the client their treatment budget.
If they have none, let them know that starting in 2025, you will begin charging for treatments.
For all of 2025:
Each time you are asked to provide a treatment, you tell the client that the minimum fee for a treatment is $________.
